Cadillac's F1 Debut: Graeme Lowdon Reveals Team's True Goals for 2026 Season Opener (2026)

Cadillac's Formula 1 Ambitions: Respect, Competition, and Fan Engagement

The upcoming season marks a significant milestone for Cadillac as they embark on their Formula 1 journey, joining the grid as the 11th team. Team principal Graeme Lowdon offers a unique perspective on what constitutes a successful opening to this new chapter.

The introduction of new regulations adds an element of uncertainty, making it challenging to predict the team's performance. Lowdon acknowledges the unpredictability, stating, 'Success in terms of the Melbourne race - nobody knows that, nobody knows where anybody's going to finish.'

Despite the unknowns, Lowdon remains focused on a strategic approach. He emphasizes the importance of earning the respect of other teams, a fundamental aspect of their initial target. He says, 'We look at the things that we can control ourselves. And obviously, we want to execute well as a team, but nobody really sees that externally. One of the things that we've often said is the first target for us is to earn the respect of the other teams. We respect them, rightly so. This is a world championship. So that's the first target for us.'

However, Cadillac's ambitions go beyond mere respect. Lowdon expresses a desire to compete and contribute to the sport. He highlights the potential of Apple's involvement, stating, 'Talking to Jim [DeLorenzo, global head of sports at Apple] earlier, it's so exciting what Apple are doing and the various plans that they have. I'm passionate about motorsport, but I still think that we've got a massive opportunity to take this sport to more and more fans, and we want to contribute to that as well.'

Cadillac's strategy involves engaging fans directly. Lowdon concludes, 'So a key thing for us is we don't want fans to follow what we're doing. We want them to join us.'

The team's 2026 F1 livery will make its debut during the Super Bowl on February 8th, followed by pre-season testing the subsequent week. The Australian Grand Prix, a pivotal event, is scheduled for March 6-8.
